SixBlockRadius

SixBlockRadius was formed in 1997 when long-time friends Lisa Bond and Shona Fraser teamed up with Shannon Perkins and started writing their own original material. After many hours of rehearsal in Fraser’s basement, during which they developed their musicianship and songwriting skills, the band has emerged as a talented and unique trio, garnering comparisons to everyone from the Cranberries to Silverchair.

The Sixes began by playing shows at local youth centres, gaining experience and a strong following along the North Shore, as well as a positive review in the North Shore News. Their acceptance into NewMusicWest 2000 marked SixBlockRadius’ entrance into the competitive Vancouver music scene. The girls managed to score three gigs as part of the festival, garnering press in the Georgia Straight, the Vancouver Sun, and the front page of the North Shore News. They are currently playing clubs in the Vancouver area.

A four-song demo was recorded in December 1998 with Juno award winner Paul Gitlitz. The girls are currently working on a more up-to-date project at CDIS, as their music has evolved greatly since their last effort. Bond’s versatile voice has strengthened and matured, winning her comparisons to Sarah McLachlan and Holly McNarland. Fraser’s self-taught steady drumming grows tighter and more creative with every performance, while Perkins continues to hone her distinctive finger-picking technique as she studies classical guitar at UBC. The three have evolved an intensely evocative, and catchy writing style. They have a knack for coming up with melodies that, once heard, will refuse to leave the confines of your mind and atmospheres that will pull in everyone and everything within a well, SixBlockRadius.
