Cheek To Cheek
One
half of the Duo Cheek to Cheek, Doug Hawksworth,
studied guitar in Port Alberni, BC. Doug was
a musically gifted child and learned all styles
of guitar including classical, flamenco, R&B,
country and rock. Doug credits his musical ability
to his experience working with many fine players
and singers from Port Alberni.
The
other half of the Duo is Gail, who was born
in England. She learned to play acoustic guitar
at a young age, and always loved to sing. After
graduating, Gail went on to study with Nicoli
Kellinsnikoff (who, at one time sang with the
Russian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra). Nicoli's
experience and knowledge had a great influence
on Gail's ability as a vocalist. The combination
of Doug and Gail Hawksworth first came to be
in 1984 when Doug saw Gail performing in a band
called Wild Child. Gail later left the band
to join Doug's band Vicious Rumors, and the
musicians spent the next few years performing
throughout British Columbia, Alberta and Washington
(U.S.A.). Gail wanted to pursue an idea she
had to perform a tribute to Tina Turner, and
successfully put together a "Vegas-Style"
act which enjoyed HUGE SUCCESS in cities throughout
British Columbia and Alberta. Meanwhile, Doug
was enjoying success performing on the Vancouver
club circuit with fellow musicians.
Doug
and Gail married in 1989 and formed the Duo
Cheek to Cheek. They have enjoyed
great success on the pub and club circuit. Cheek
to Cheeks performance highlights include
performing at the Molson Indy party at the Plaza
of Nations and for the Jim Pattison Group and
enjoy steady work performing at weddings, conventions,
and private clubs.
