Jim has the ability to entertain and adapts to any mood or environment -- or perhaps they adapt to him, as Jim's sincerity and his love of his professions is so darned contagious. Byrnes took up the blues guitar at 13 and never put it down. Along the way he has had some expert instruction. Byrnes lost both legs in an automobile accident on February 26, 1972, and although it was a painful loss, it did not appear to slow him down. Coincidentally, he landed the pivotal role in Wiseguy 15 years to the day after the accident. Byrnes studied acting at both Boston University and the University of St. Louis, and after years of drifting, doing odd jobs and playing music, he settled in Vancouver in the mid-1970s and became a permanent fixture on the local music scene.
