Who we are. Vancouver Bands is owned and operated by local musicians. We have over 20 years experience each in the music industry as performers, session players, recording and live sound engineers, and personal management. We have all played the "booking game" and know the ins and outs of the sometimes not-so-friendly live music industry. Why we built this site One of the things about being a working musician is that it is very difficult to get out and see other acts. After all, we're all playing on the same nights. We wanted to know who they were, and what they were doing. How can you measure yourself if you have nothing to measure against? We also wanted to know who was playing where, so on our nights off, we could see another act of our choosing. After looking around on the Internet for our peers and not being able to find anyone, we thought "we need a place where all the local musicians can be found, and where they can list their information and gigs". After discovering that the VancouverBands.com domain was available (much to our complete amazement), a plan started to take shape. The web site officially launched on June 1, 2000. Since our humble beginnings with 3 artists, we have grown to feature close to two hundred diverse musical artists. We have found work for some, auditions for others, management contacts, record label interest, festivals and concerts. The film industry has taken a keen interest in our site and continue to use it regularly. We have been written about in the newspapers, talked about on radio, and are scheming a way onto television. To make a long story short - The site is effective and gaining momentum all the time. A Bit About Our Philosophy The future trend is for more and more people to go into business for themselves. There is no security in the 9-5 world making someone else's dreams come true. As musicians, we literally put our hearts and souls into our craft. For years, others have been determining who will be seen and who will be heard. Our valuable talents are being exploited and manipulated to further someone else's agenda. We say no more! Through Vancouver Bands, musicians have a public place to say "we are here, we will be seen, and we will be heard". Vancouver Bands is a means for musicians to enhance their business. After all, we musicians who make a living at it are in fact in business. By offering a supplement to the old-school agencies and the uncertainty of self-booking, we will provide an additional outlet for you to promote your services. Our Mission We are dedicated to providing an all-in-one web site for musicians to list their services, and for agents, managers, promoters, venue operators, and the general public to have a fast, convenient way to find and hire these musicians. We will provide a place for musicians to find resources and each other, and take part in strengthening their own community. We will take back some of the control of our industry and put it back in the hands of the musicians who's hard work and sacrifice is the very backbone of the industry. We will raise the level of entertainment, raise the confidence of our members, and spark a new interest in the venues that provide live music. |
